Waterwatch

The waterwatch program increases understanding of waterways, the impacts on them, and ways to improve their condition. Schools are an important part of the program. Waterwatchers regularly monitor their local waterways to get a feel for what is "normal" for that waterway. Simple biological, physical and chemical tests have been developed for Waterwatchers. The Network maintains a database of monitoring results. When the Waterwatch Network identifies potential problems, it works with authorities to develop strategies to help improve water quality. By alerting relevant authorities, increasing public awareness or organising a clean up day, Waterwatchers contribute to the long-term health of their catchment. The Oxley Creek Waterwatch Network involves schools and community groups around the catchment in water quality monitoring.
